What It Means to be a Family in a Technological Dystopia
Review of The Mitchells Vs. The Machines
The dystopian element is just a way to amplify and expand the complexity of the characters and their growth in the process.
I first started hearing about The Mitchells Vs. The Machines on Twitter from parents who watched movies with their children. They were surprised to find that both kids and adults were entertained. Parents and kids were both laughing and enjoying their time watching the movie. This is an outlier experience for much of family-oriented movies outside of Pixar blockbusters.
When I went to my dad’s 65th birthday party, I talked to my older brother and his wife and kids, and they expressed the same feelings I heard online, “It’s great, but it’s about twenty minutes too long,” he said. Which I tend to agree with after viewing it with my husband on a Saturday night. There were also some surprises though…
