Three Short Chapter Books for Halloween from Candlewick Press
When the Monsters Take a Break
The more Halloween books, the merrier, especially in chapter format. I wish I had had these books in fourth grade when I started reading. Short chapter books about the horrors were my thing.
Halloween is a time when monsters do more than scare. They may seek out candy, pour tea, or prep food to sell. Not all vampires bite, though they may collect someone else’s teeth.
Crimson Twill: Witch in the Country by Kallie George, Illustrated by Birgitta Sif (Candlewick Press, 2023)
Crimson Twill plans to host her city friends in her country home. She’s swept the dirt path, put on her favorite dress, and served her grandmother’s cooking. Surely nothing can go wrong as long as Sweepy, her broom, is okay with her friend Dusty staying for a short while. Sure, Mauve and Wesley’s parents seem a little stiff, with their dad giving literal stars to review them.
Unfortunately, little things blow up into big problems. Collecting apples for pie leads to a rotten sauce storm…
