Cute, Colorful, & Queer
Interview with Artist Kayla Symonds
Supporting queer Black artists every month is crucial. But if you’re looking for someone to support this month, look no further than Kayla aka Little Lucky Shop! vanessa maki touches base with Kayla in Interstellar Flight Magazine’s continuing artist interview series.
INTERSTELLAR FLIGHT PRESS: If someone were to ask, how would you describe your art & or you as an artist?
KAYLA SYMONDS: I would describe my art as cute and colorful, and I think I’d describe myself the same way! I love wearing colorful funky earrings and clothing!
IFP: How’s your journey as not only an artist, but a small merch supplier, been like throughout this pandemic? Have you found you’ve grown a lot as a creative?
KS: It’s had its ups and downs but when I look back it’s been great. I’ve been in moments where I’m like “what am I even doing” but when I think about the connections I’ve made and people I’ve actually become friends with, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Through the pandemic specifically, there’s been a lot of new businesses putting themselves and their work out there wanting Merch, and I’m super grateful to be the one to help them get their work out there!
